Vanilla sea salt caramel latte tastes like my afternoon finally got its act together. I combine bold espresso with buttery caramel, vanilla, creamy milk, and sea salt. My husband calls it fancy coffee, my child asks for whipped cream, and I quietly enjoy five peaceful minutes. Honestly, that feels luxurious.

- espresso machine
- Milk frother
- 2 Heatproof Cups
- Tall Glasses
- Ice Tray
- refrigerator
Ingredients
Sea Salt Caramel
- Granulated sugar — 1/3 cup (67 g)
- Heavy cream — 1/4 cup (60 ml), room temperature
- Unsalted butter — 1 tablespoon (14 g)
- Flaky sea salt — 1/4 teaspoon (1 g)
Latte Base
- Espresso — 2 shots (60 ml), freshly brewed
- Whole milk — 1 1/2 cups (360 ml)
- Vanilla extract — 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
Finishing
- Whipped cream — 1/2 cup (60 g), optional
- Sea salt — pinch, optional
- Caramel sauce — 1 tablespoon (15 ml), optional
- Ice cubes — 1 1/2 cups (210 g), for iced version
Instructions
- Place the sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Let it melt without stirring until the edges begin turning golden.
- Gently swirl the pan as the sugar melts. Continue until the syrup turns a deep amber color, watching closely because caramel can burn quickly.
- Reduce the heat and carefully whisk in the room-temperature cream. The mixture will bubble vigorously, so add the cream slowly.
- Add butter and flaky sea salt. Stir until the caramel becomes smooth and glossy, then remove it from the heat.
- Brew two fresh espresso shots. Stir vanilla into the hot espresso while preparing the milk.
- Warm the milk until steaming but not boiling. Froth it until it becomes creamy and lightly foamy.
- Stir 2 tablespoons of the sea salt caramel into the espresso. Adjust the amount for a sweeter or more caramel-forward latte.
- Pour the caramel espresso into two cups. Slowly add the warm frothed milk, holding back the foam with a spoon before finishing with it.
- Top with whipped cream, a caramel drizzle, and a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt if desired. Serve immediately while hot and creamy.
- For an iced version, cool the caramel espresso mixture first. Fill tall glasses with ice, add chilled milk, then pour the coffee mixture over it.
- Use less ice for a softer, creamier drink or extra ice for a colder, more refreshing texture.
Notes
Keep the caramel amber rather than dark brown for a smooth, buttery flavor. Always use room-temperature cream when adding it to hot caramel to reduce splattering. For a softer, creamier latte, use whole milk and freshly frothed foam. For a lighter version, use oat or almond milk. Customize with cinnamon, extra vanilla, maple syrup, chocolate, or additional flaky sea salt. Add toppings immediately before serving for the best texture. Refrigerate leftover caramel in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks and warm it gently before use. Store prepared latte refrigerated for up to 24 hours, but assemble fresh for the best quality. Do not freeze the finished latte because dairy may separate.
