Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • whisk
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • funnel
  • Glass Bottle or Jar

Ingredients

French Vanilla Syrup

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste optional
  • 1 tbsp light brown sugar for subtle caramel flavor
  • 1 pinch salt optional

Instructions

  • Combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and water in a saucepan. Stir constantly over medium heat until everything dissolves completely.
  • Simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes. The syrup should remain clear and lightly thickened without browning.
  • Remove from the heat. Stir in vanilla extract, vanilla bean paste, and salt until fully blended.
  • Cool until warm. The finished syrup should coat a spoon lightly while pouring smoothly.
  • Transfer into a clean bottle or jar using a funnel. Refrigerate before serving for the best flavor.
  • Use 1 to 2 tablespoons in coffee, espresso, tea, milk, or dessert recipes. Stir thoroughly before enjoying.

Notes

For a softer, lighter syrup, reduce simmering slightly. Simmer an extra minute for a richer consistency without caramelizing. Chill thoroughly before serving cold beverages. Handle carefully when assembling iced drinks to preserve flavor balance. Customize with almond or hazelnut extract. Store refrigerated in a sealed container for up to one month and shake before each use.
