  • whisk
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • funnel
  • Glass Bottle or Jar

Ingredients

Dark Chocolate Syrup

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 3 cup dark cocoa powder sifted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt optional

Instructions

  • Whisk together sugar, dark cocoa powder, and water in a saucepan until the mixture becomes completely smooth.
  • Cook over medium heat while whisking frequently until the syrup gently simmers and slightly thickens.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt until fully blended.
  • Cool until warm. The finished syrup should coat a spoon with a silky, glossy consistency.
  • Pour into a clean glass bottle using a funnel and refrigerate until completely chilled.
  • Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons into coffee, mochas, lattes, milk, or drizzle over desserts before serving.

Notes

Reduce cooking time slightly for a thinner syrup or simmer another minute for a richer texture without scorching the cocoa. Chill completely before preparing iced beverages. Stir gently while assembling layered drinks. Customize with peppermint, orange extract, or cinnamon. Store refrigerated in a sealed container for up to one month and shake before each use.
