Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • whisk
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • funnel
  • Glass Bottle or Jar

Ingredients

Brown Sugar Cinnamon Syrup

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar light or dark
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt optional

Instructions

  • Combine the brown sugar, water, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until the sugar completely dissolves.
  • Simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes, whisking occasionally so the cinnamon stays evenly distributed.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt until fully blended.
  • Cool until warm. The syrup should look glossy and lightly coat the back of a spoon.
  • Strain if you prefer a smoother texture, then pour into a clean glass bottle using a funnel. Refrigerate completely.
  • Add 1 to 2 tablespoons to coffee, espresso, lattes, iced drinks, tea, milk, oatmeal, or desserts and stir thoroughly.

Notes

Simmer briefly for a lighter consistency or one extra minute for a richer syrup without over-thickening. Chill completely before preparing iced beverages. Shake gently before each use because cinnamon naturally settles. Customize with nutmeg, cloves, or maple extract. Store refrigerated in a sealed container for up to one month.
